The heated dry cycles of dihwashers kill bacteria that is within your cooking utensils by means of heat, which dishwashing liquid won't do.
This especially true for plastics, which many say you should not use after having heated or frozen. If you are to reuse these things, such as water bottles for bicycling, you definitely have to sanitize them by use of heat.
If you don't have a dishwasher, you can place them in a conventional oven on a temp of 150 F for about 10 min, and they will be bacteria and virus free inside and out.
Same for wooden spoons, plastic knife, fork and spoon trays, wood, plastic or earthen mixing bowls, etc, etc, etc.
MAKE SURE THE OVEN IS CALIBRATED SEMI-ACCURATELY. A FEW DEGREES WON'T MATTER BUT IF YOU GO MUCH OVER 175 F, IT COULD RESULT IN MELTING, FIRE AND/OR BURNING.
