One 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Durpin area in Kalimpong on Wednesday evening. It was learnt that one Sarika (name changed), 14, resident of Alaichikhop, under Bhalukhop gram panchayat area, had left home to visit Kalimpong town to buy medicine.
Later, while she was returning home on foot, a Maruti van driver, Karan Roka, offered her a ride home and after much cajoling he finally succeeded. On the way he gave her intoxicants and then drove the girl to a place five kilometres out of town near Durpin. There the driver called three more persons from a monastery to board the van. Later at a jungle near Durpin the girl was allegedly brutally raped by the four persons.
Later the unconscious girl was dropped at a jungle near her home by these people around 10pm. Some villagers noticed her there in an unconscious state and immediately identified her. She was taken to the Kalimpong Sub Divisional Hospital for medical treatment and an FIR was lodged with the Kalimpong police. The girl is still not in a condition to disclose all details, however she has said that she knows the rapists but did not say anything further.
On the other hand, as per the police, after search operation and investigation all through the night the Kalimpong police arrested the four. The Kalimpong ASP Mrs Sangmeet Lepcha confirmed the arrests and that the accused have been put under Section 376 IPC. Further investigations are going on.
The four persons are Karan Roka (the driver), Samten Tshedup, Phurba Dorjee and Dawa Dukpa. Except for the driver, the others are monks of a monastery at the 10th Mile.
