- Barrow, Alaska or Utkikvik {place where the snowy owl flies} is the United States' most northern community and is located 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The Chukchi Sea in the Arctic Ocean surrounds Barrow to the west, north, and east. To the south, level tundra or permafrost (permanently frozen ground) stretches for some 200 miles until the Brooks Mountain Range begins, separating and isolating the North Slope (both a geographic and political designation) from the rest of Alaska.

- NCAR Foothills Lab WebCam
- Operated by NCAR Lidar Engineering Group /Atmospheric Technology Division. The WebCam was brought on-line to monitor sky conditions as part of an aerosol backscatter lidar development effort. The camera is located on the roof of the NCAR Foothills Lab, near the intersection of Foothills Parkway and the Diagonal Highway. This is also near the Boulder airport, and aircraft are often seen by the camera during takeoff or landing. The camera uses a wide-angle lens and resolution is 640x480 pixels.
